You do not want cabinets set lower than the tile. I have removed many like that and they were all nasty and rotted out. Any moisture that gets down to the subfloor will have no where to go but be absorbed into the toe kick material of the cabinet. Cabinets can be set on plastic shims to the finished height of the tile if you don't want tile under the cabinets. As far as grout not being under the cabinets, I don't see that as a big deal. The tile setters can grout up to the toe kick if need be. Personally, I would want it all grouted now. That is standard procedure. There are plenty of ways to protect the floor during ongoing construction. | |
