Subject: RE: LDL cholesterol 272

Southwestern Minnesota
Just finished watching this very good presentation. Same concerns as with other studies, in that it is a small sample size (100 people) a short duration of study time for a long-term problem (5 years), elimination of those participants who do not meet the criteria and the research is funded by the group he is presenting to (Citizen Science Foundation).
However, the points he presents are well-taken. LDL's are a concern- not necessarily predictive of having a heart attack, but if you have a history or other markers (high calcium score) then definitely something to work on lowering (including the use of statins). He also states that there is a lot of good research done by many different countries that statins are an effective treatment for heart disease and for lowering LDL's. He also talks about personalized medicine and not a one-size-fits all approach. I'm all for that.
At the very end of the presentation he starts talking about ApoB and the relationship of that to LDL's and heart disease. Dr Attica's book "Outlive" also talks about the relationship of the tests for Lipoprotein A and Lipoprotein B as markers for heart disease, as well as correlating this with a Calcium CT score and testing for the genetic Lp(a) factor. And a big take away with this presentation and Dr. Attica's book is to get your metabolic health in order. Get that inflammatory process under control. Lose wt if you're overweight, cut back on carbs, get your diabetes under control, etc.
Lots to learn yet to get this disease better managed, but it does seem like we are making some headway.
