Someone with a similar activity and a similar rig of wagons passed though my area maybe 20 years ago. Had a coop of chickens on the back of one of the wagons. He would find a likely spot and then stake out the mules to graze in an open spot which otherwise would have needed mowing anyway. Folks would stop to chat with him. showboat
