| He listened to the doctor until he had extreme side effects. The doctor still wants him to go on statins. He learned, the doctor didn't. The doctor is following the script that he learned in those prestigious medical schools. If the doctor doesn’t understand that not every drug is suitable for every person he isn’t doing much more than following a script. Here is another comparison you are sure to like. He’s like a guy holding a hammer that thinks everything is a nail. He really isn’t thinking any more than that. So while he SHOULD know best, he isn’t using his own knowledge of the patient.
Having said that, everyone is free to also not think though. But in the end it will be the patient that suffers when the doctor is wrong, not the doctor. Mistakes made by medical professionals cause a very significant number of deaths each year. | |
