This is a good example of a real world "Trolley Problem"
Local farmer here is 80 years old, has one eye, poor hearing, and makes a 60 mile round trip to his farm every day. 
It's just a matter of time until someone gets hurt. 
At this time, a good driver in his 40s, well rested, with all his senses intact, and nothing on his mind, other than driving will beat the machine most of the time. I don't think that will always be the case though. Then what ?
I watched an interview on this subject, with Warren Buffet. He owns a good sized insurance company, so I give some credence to his answers on this subject. He concluded that a good system will benefit mankind.
