MB, Canada | I'm not sure what Doug would call undervalued right now but I think we can officially say breds are into stupid territory around here. Sales around here are in the range of $4k to $6k now (CDN dollars). Of course, people are justifying it by saying that they could calve them out, sell the calf for $2500 and the cow as a cull for $3000 and break even the first year. Seems to me like a good way to get yourself in trouble with the bank.
Funny thing is, a lot of those people weren't buying last fall when calves were $2000, culls were $1800, and the good breds were $3000. Optimism's quite a drug. | |
