Nw Iowa | Here to get the really top yield we need to get it the ground by May 1 and than have enough heat and rain. Our danger here is not enough growing degree days to get crop to maturity, at least our full season which are the yield makers. And of course lack of rain too much heat like every body else. But late planting or uneven emergence kills our top yields. I am not complaining as this is fact of live on our heavy clay soils that generally stand a little on dry side quite well. But getting crop in and up is probably more fickle than some areas. Right now here it isn’t planting progress, though behind but emergence that is killing us this year. We have some April 12 planted corn that was planted in great conditions that is still trying to poke thru.
Edit This a year where even system tiled farms are not working perfectly.
