We have always figured that if you get half an inch on 32 sprayed on with pre-emerge it was good to go, if it was already an inch in the ground I would say you should Be confident and keeping all of it.
I agree I think you are worried for nothing. I'm not saying that the deeper wouldn't been better but don't think you're screwed my any means.
