Floyd County, Iowa | We have a "private drainage agreement" here. There is no county connection in our watershed. We have about 3100 acres drained into the "ditch"/creek. It is a natural creek that has been cleaned twice and reshaped in the last 50 years. Everyone (approximately 30 owners) that drains into it help maintain it and clean it, just like a county drainage district, except we don't have all the gov't waste and red tape to deal with. A little over 8000 feet, and cost everyone less than $3 per acre.
Everyone 50 years ago agreed to form this private drainage district, and signed the papers, and had it recorded to the abstracts.
I have approximately 1 mile of this creek running through me. If anyone would think that I should clean it out on my own because I'm downstream from them, they have another think coming. We had it cleaned a few years ago, and it helps everyone, so everyone pays. | |
