I really like gypsum, and if I had my choice it would be synthetic gypsum. It's no miracle worker but will definitely work through your soil profile. It will take several years. I'd try 1 ton for three straight years. If you can put it on without tillage seem to work the best for me. Hi cal lime is also an option just not as quick (as if 3 years is quick). Might want to try the cause of the compaction and obviously try to eliminate that.
