Yeah they really dislike JE because of its potential for misuse so they neuter it instead of training people properly.

At this point, there likely isn't any difference reconciling from a paper statement VS the download. The paper statement gets printed off the same data that gets downloaded. If anything, you'd be introducing a human degree of error that might misread a paper number.

Either way, you could manually enter all the transactions first then download the reconciliation data to electronically compare.

I have a bank that is supposed to be connected but because they just changed their name it doesn't work. You can manually download most bank data as a Quickbooks file and then upload that data as a "statement" to xero for the electronic reconciliation.
