Subject: Feeding the world

Pittsburg, Kansas
That is a good point and one I have brought up in the past.

My hope is modern technology will help solve some of the problems.

For example I would really like to make soybean oil a healthy fat that does not suffer from oxidation and the health issues related to consuming oxidized fats. For at least a couple reasons. The selfish reason is I grow and sell soybeans. The better reasons have to do with feeding a world full of people with economical foods that are also healthier choices.

When I hear some of the doctors I follow talk about organic and pasture finished cattle and chickens, I realize they do not have a very good grasp on what it takes to feed a world population. I have no problem at all with organic production and think it is great for those that want and can afford it. I am glad that choice is available, although any organic I personally eat is more by accident than choice. Modern agriculture has done and continues to do wonders feeding the world in an economical fashion.

That doesn't mean there can't be improvements made. Maybe wheat varieties that emphasize nutritional value rather than yield??? Maybe a way to get rid of the gluten and leaky gut problem??? But the incentives have to be there for that to happen (like maybe public demand for better nutrition???). I don't have answers.

But I digress. Bottom line is I may not be able to influence what the world consumes or their health choices. Not my desire even if I could. But I CAN control what I put in my mouth for my own health benefit. The world will have to decide for themselves what they can and will put in their mouths. They have to decide and implement that on their own, just like I managed to do so on my own.

Good science can help them decide and prosper. Bad science just leads down the wrong path, despite perhaps good intentions.

To improve the world a good place to start is improving one's self.
