There are battery powered transmitter’s and ones that are wired into a vehicle. You can track the history and timeline of where it’s been, how long it’s been there, how fast it’s going if moving, the meter reading, disable a vehicle, and more. Just like most others, if the thief takes it off or disables it, it’s not much good. Hiding it is the key. This screenshot is of a PJ 7X20 bumper pull trailer. No idea on the cost but we have 104 of them.
