Northeast Missouri | I don't need/use payroll, but ADP payroll interfaces with QB desktop according to this page:

It requires installing a connector to QuickBooks which may work with "expired" QB editions...or may not. I'd want to be able to test it before paying any $$$.
There's also Gusto payroll...most of $40 per month if I recall. You supposedly can export payroll data to an *.IIF (Intuit Interchange Format) file, which is a file type QB desktop editions can import. Again, I'd want to test it myself before committing. However, I think they have a 3 month free trial.
Gusto also interfaces to a lot of cloud-based accounting products. If you should happen to move to one of them in the future you wouldn't have any re-learning to make payroll work.
