I wonder if your breakage is because of your soils. We have delta down force on a 1255 and were told by other farmers that just set the pressure heavy and plant. The row unit is forgiving on extra pressure. If I remember right PP said at last year's winter conference set the down pressure at 150# on a CNH planter. That being said we vary ours trying to adapt for ground conditions. We're in central Illinois with I state soil. Never have had any row units break.
This doesn't answer your question just some thoughts.
