ecmn | When we look at nitrogen every Farmer on here needs to be doing a 0 applied nitrogen strip on every field. Let's say your in a 200 bushel area. Your zero applied nitrogen corn makes 80 bushel. But you have been buying 200 Ncredits to grow 200 bushel corn. You have been way over applying or giving way too much money away to grow that 200 bushel corn. You have been applying 200 nitrogen credits to grow 120 bushels.
Everything I say is based off of point of influence on the plant nutrient uptake charts of the plant and the experience from the top yield Growers and some amazing soil scientists or independent agronomists, and my own journey.
Nitrogen applications need to be done two growing stages ahead of the point of influence. So you have a range of your first application around V3 to V4 so it's there for that V5 to V6. And then you have your next opportunity at V6 so it's there for V8 and then you have your tassel time
Assume one to one ratio of nitrogen to yield. So if you want 200 bushel corn you're going to need 200 credits. Haney test the soil and you subtract the number from The Haney test from your goal and that's how much you apply.
What if one field when you pulled the Haney test I already came back that it had 200 nitrogen credits. You would have to buy zero nitrogen to finish the year to grow 200 bushel corn.
I will pull Haney test and let's say I have 130 nitrogen credits so I only need to buy 70 nitrogen credits to finish the season.
I would apply 50 nitrogen credits and then around tassel pull another Haney test on the soil and a plant test. put out with the Drone the last N, another ounce source, sugar and a quart of P&K.
Plant testing. Sap is the most accurate, so far the only company I would trust would be Advanced eco agriculture. The turnaround time is a little bit slow.
But I've had Fairly good luck at V4 pulling a sap test so then by V5 I can be doing foliar application to correct any deficiencies. And then always some Source, sugar, and K.
