| June of 2011 had my bred heifers beig raised by a neighbor. They got out and got on the tracks. Walked in a marsh straight down them. 22 killed and 5 injured. Looked like a faces of death movie. Some with legs torn off. Some had the calves blown out the side of them. This happened during the night. Had to get insurance permission to shoot the really torn up ones. Spent the day cleaning it up. Whole/mostly whole ones the railroad used the grapple truck and loaded the rendering truck at the crossing. Pieces I had to load by hand. Blood and guts got covered by lime. Wasn't much fun!
I was very lucky that the cattle had coverage written extra in my umbrella policy. A standard policy would have paid $500 per head for a maximum of 5 head.
