posting this in stock talk rather than machinery or crop...mods move if you see fit.
currently running a 30' GP drill with hyd downpressure on our crop ground and that works well for no tilling. however, I am going to need to reseed several pastures in the next 2 years, and also have some rockier ground that has a several trees and lots of slope. would like a 15' but 10' seems more common. would be seeding wheat and also grasses / brassicas / alfalfa. Have seen used JD 1590s, Great Plains 1500s and a Haybuster 107C. What are yalls experience between these?
main concern is good seed/soil contact and depth consistency...which I would imagine would favor the Deeres...but I've heard they don't handle the slopes as well. I know nothing about Haybuster but happy to listen.
We have a Deere 1590 and love it. Easy to get parts at any Deere store and lots of aftermarket available. We like the single disc vs. the coulter/double disc like your great plains that we used before. I still prefer a Brillion for grass seed in worked ground, but for a all around drill we like the 1590. I have never used a Haybuster, but we have bought and sold, and rebuilt several of them, and I wasn't real impressed with the drill. |
