Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | That’s exactly right. These smaller school districts are getting away with murder. Too many renters paying no tax unless you consider part of the rent is covering the taxes. Most don’t think that way. Homeowners pay a little more in town but not near what a landowner in the country pays. We don’t have a chance.
BTW, around 80% of our real estate tax liability goes for schools. And some of that doesn’t stay local. Lincoln and Omaha get some of it. We are just screwed being outnumbered in the legislature. A lot of talk about reform but when it gets down to the vote, those in Lincoln and Omaha will not vote against their constituents. |
