WC MN | I think you need to use New crop prices. Locally NC beans are around $9.60 and corn $4.10. In our area there is more value in storing corn in anticipation of basis and carry accrual. Locally we also have a higher ceiling on corn yields vs beans. If you want to be honest, currently corn probably breaks even or makes a little money in 25' and beans are loosing money. Our area grows spring wheat and at a current price of $5.50 at New crop before discounts, you could easily loose $150/acre. Spring wheat does usually provide an opportunity to store and improve price.
Corn is the only one with a decent chance to be a net positive at this point in my general area other that specialty crops but those acres do not fluctuate much. | |
