cropsey, il 61731 | If anything "trust the science" has developed a fairly healthy skepticism towards just doing whatever the doctor says. Doctors, etc are a resource. They can be pretty full of themselves, but you can always fire them and go somewhere else. They do have knowledge (that you can have too) and experience (that probably won't have) that you can use and together come up with strategies. All too often we want "fix me now" and that doesn't end well.
The research on cholesterol and statins is pretty mixed. I guess we should have figured as much when it was hailed as the cure all. I'm pretty sure the researchers thought it was unethical to not give statins to all the participants (at least that's what I read a long time ago). We have to be discerning. Several folks have suggested cleaning up your diet and exercise. This is the best. There are vitamins/supplements that can be helpful, but they are not quick fixes. Studies show they have an effect, but it's usually small. Pharmaceutical folks will say all their drugs have side effects. I don't think they can work as fast without messing up other things.
The doctor prescribes something then plays golf. The patient endures the result of prescription (bad or good). It's best to participate in your health care. These folks are just people. hlstark probably needs another booster.
