Latimer, Iowa (north central) | When we updated our bathroom I insulated it with fiberglass. It’s right between two bedrooms and isolates sounds.
Also lined entire room with 3/4 plywood. Gives flexibility in mounting towel racks, paper holders, mirrors, etc in the future.
Put an exhaust fan next to the toilet at that level to quickly evacuate smells to the basement below.
We did a tile shower with granite bench. If you ever have a leg injury a nice bench is invaluable. Grout is a bit of a pain to clean but looks nice.
My wife and I are both tall so we had a custom vanity made that is 6 inches taller than a regular one.
We matched bathroom granite with kitchen granite for continuity.
Whatever you do put in the high toilet with elongated bowl.
