Big Sky Country | I’ve got some in grasslands CRP.
Tougher environment than many of you.
Pays about $12.
Takes probably 5 acres for 1 aum.
I can still graze it—-45 days—leave 1/4
They’ll cost share cross fences—-it’ll be 4 paddocks.
Plan is graze 3 fields a season, 41/2 months, that grass runs outa gas about Labor Day.
So—if I was taking in cows, the payment competes very well with pasture charge.
And I still get to pasture. But we run our own cows.
Basically, they’re paying me to do what I want to do anyway.
Got about 50 acres shallow lakes on it—they don’t pay for that. I’d like to enhance waterfowl/wildlife habitat there.
And get paid to do it would be even better :-). Any ideas?
