From what I've gathered the efficiency is real and legit. Alot of processing/RAM saving or compression. Nothing ground breaking, why it wasn't utilized prior IDK. Spent time on Reddit and there's guys saying this level of efficiency was done on computers but scrapped in the 80s when processors and RAM took off.
