Roggen, CO A mile from 2 counties | I’ll try to answer some,
He’s rented from my cousin for several years with no issues. Cousins pasture is next to mine, nearly identical size. We did water tests on both his wells and all came up normal. As I stated his wells are approx 2 miles from mine away from the creek. I wouldn’t say he “accused” me or the water of causing the issues but when we tested the water he showed it to his vet and he was informed to drain the tank and not allow them to drink. Yes I did see some cattle drink from my tank first hand. We suspected something wrong when the cows kept knocking down the fence between our pastures to get to cousins water. I noticed no algae growing in my water, which is very unusual. We did visually see some cows acting strange and the vet suggested it was the water. No there were no specific tests done to know for sure if the water was the culprit. Now that being said, we’ve owned this pasture for 50ish years and have never had this issue before. I don’t believe it’s a coincidence this happened after all the water ran through us that did.
I can’t say for the hydrology as this well is very old and there are no records anywhere that I know of. Gramps passed and I don’t know who else might know about it. We’ve considered water treatment and it sounds like it’s not a feasible option for the location. I have not thought about ponds but I’d need some info on how that would be done. It’s already very large 15ft tank.
Cows go on in spring and come off in fall so he already knew how many he lost when they preg checked. 30 is approximate, I actually think he said it was more than that.
Yes I agree I do need to make some more phone calls and get some soil samples done. What other tests should I have done when I take another water sample this spring?
