| A lot depends on how many of those you fill. I would say polination was not complete on this ear when you pulled it. Typically we count the number of rows X The number of kernals filled X (Plant population-1000) then divide by 90,000 in an average year or 100,000 in a dry year or 80,000 in a good kernal fill year(ie lots of late July/August rain). Also your result is as good as your sample. Determine a random way of picking ears(don't make it complicated, we pick a stalk then count 5 ears then pull off 5 ears or something along those lines. I like pulling consecutive ears because then you don't happen to skip the runt plant). Repeat through the field as much as you want. The more you pull the closer your result will be. | |
