Pollock SD | We had the same thing happen to us on a bin of corn last summer. We tried everything we could think of and nothing worked. We had a auger that the wind had blown over and wrecked but were able to cut out a 28 foot piece that was still straight and added a orbit motor to run it. We then cut a 13 inch diameter hole in manhole or door and then pushed the auger into the hole. We wanted to get the corn out of the center b/c we were told if we emptied the bin from the edge it would collapse. After we got the bin empty we simply replaced the door with a new one. The crates or safety wire over top of the auger is what gets you into trouble, and although I don't want to give anybody any bad ideas, we cut out the center sumps on the rest of our bins so that it won't happen again. | |
